A thought from Rose

The Sunday table

When the family grows, spreads out and moves cities, Sunday lunch becomes something else.

In my childhood, Sunday lunch had twelve people, three conversations at once and always too much food.

A table that changed size

Today there are four of us, sometimes two. But I still cook too much — it’s my way of leaving room for whoever might arrive.

“A table that’s set is an invitation that stays open even when no one comes.”
